International Women’s Day: March 8th 2022
Throughout history there have been strong, powerful and inspiring women who have challenged society and fought for what it means to be a woman.
Cleopatra springs to mind, in a time when women were considered lower in the pecking order, the Queen of the Nile proved that women knew best when she took on the might of the Roman Empire and won.
Women in politics are now commonplace but once upon a time it was very much a male domain, and whether you like the political stance of some female politicians or not, what has to be acknowledged is their sheer determination and focus when it comes to their beliefs.
Hairdressing has had more than its fair share of legendary women, including numerous Scottish hairdressers who have flown the flag for creativity, leadership and (of course) Scotland.
Today is International Women‘s Day so we decided to share a few quotes from some of the women who have inspired and motivated us.
In no particular order:
Joanna Lumley “I’ve looked forward to being older because you will have that many more miles covered. We mustn’t be led into thinking getting old is bad. Growing old is good.”
Queen Elizabeth II “The upward course of a nation’s history is due in the long run to the soundness of heart of its average men and women.”
Oprah Winfrey “Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new centre of gravity. Don’t fight them. Just find a new way to stand.”
Beyonce “the most alluring thing a woman can have is confidence”
Jessica Ennis-Hill “There is a need to be the best you can be. You can’t panic; you concentrate. When I run up to the hurdles, I’m very nervous, but I’ll tend to think about technical things to keep my mind focused.”
Kate Middleton “Together with open conversations and greater understanding, we can ensure that attitudes for mental health change and children receive the support they deserve.”
Serena Williams “Think of all the girls who could become top athletes but quit sports because they’re afraid of having too many defined muscles and being made fun of or called unattractive.”
Malala Yousafzai “I tell my story not because it is unique, but because it is the story of many girls.”
JK Rowling “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”
Princess Diana “Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.”
We know you will all have women in your lives who have inspired and motivated you, so today especially we shout out to women everywhere, because you are the best! And don’t forget you can nominate someone special to win the very first Rhona McCallum Hair Mother’s Day Act Of Kindness Award, click here for full details: Act Of Kindness
